Operation Specific
Stunning the Trygon
Most people are probably already aware that you can stun the Trygon by detonating melta bombs on it, but it's a little more in-depth than "melta bomb = stun".
Here is how it works:
-
One melta bomb explosion will stun the Trygon.
-
If another melta bomb goes off while the Trygon is still stunned it will undo the stun instead, making the Trygon dive under the sand immediately.
-
If you detonate two melta bombs while the Trygon is stunned then it will reset the stun, buying you more DPS time. But if you detonate two melta bombs for the initial stun explosion then it will not stun the Trygon properly and he will dive under very quickly.
If you time your detonations perfectly though you can
chain the stuns on the Trygon with individual melta
bombs. Make sure to detonate the bomb so that the
explosion hits just as the Trygon finishes its getting
up animation. If you're playing Sniper you can even
chain 2 meltas solo with his grenade recharging perk,
as can Tactical (and his teammates) if you get good
timing on the grenade refresh.
Predictable Spawns
Some missions have spawns that are always the same and very predictable, and knowing about these can help you get through the missions easier. The main 2 examples are on Decapitation and Ballistic Engine.
With Ballistic Engine when the swarm of Tyranids spawns in the final area there will always be a majoris that calls for reinforcements in that wave, usually before they jump up to where you are, so have someone ready to shoot it.
On Decapitation 3 warriors will always spawn in the same spots: from below you in the middle of the bridge when the Cadian says "they're stacking up", or from the back left corner when facing the roof if they come from that direction. Taking them out as they walk through the gaunts will take out a good chunk of them.
When you look at the health bars of your allies you will notice a little white border and shield icon around their class icon, if this outline is missing then your ally currently has no armor.
